Introducing the Mole, SEA-Tech\u2019s new soil displacement drill bit. Suitable for most soil conditions, the Mole enhances the performance of soil nails and mini-piles and dramatically reduces spoil waste removal from site.
Installation is simple and effective with a wide range of standard drilling rigs. Drilling at a slow rotation speed, penetration is synchronised to the head rotation. After 0.5–1.0 m, grout is pumped through to the drill bit at 10 bar, continuing until the designed depth is achieved. The completed operation provides a central grout column of 80 mm diameter with a 140 mm diameter helical column of grout (or soil-mixed grout in softer ground formations).
The pictures show a typical Mole bit drilled through a metre of old rail track and a further eight metres of clay below, then retrieved to show its condition. Mole drill bits are manufactured from cast chrome steel, heat-treated for extra durability — a drill bit suited to the most difficult ground conditions.
